I lost all track of time last night as I finished "i'm not yelling" by Elizabeth Leiba. Mainly because the questions she posed at the end of her chapters forced me to do some deep reflection on how I show up to work. So, you might be wondering why a white guy would read a "black woman's guide to navigating the workplace." Let me explain. 1. Currently, I supervise a Black Woman. 2. I've had Black Woman supervisors and Black Woman colleagues. 3. Black Woman are everywhere in the workplace! And while all that matters, I wasn't supervising a Black Woman when I bought the book. Allyship isn't about reacting to a situation when it arises, it is being proactive, preparing yourself, educating yourself, to prevent situations from happening and responding when they do. So if you are somehow not familiar with Elizabeth's incredible work and advocacy, consider this your invitation. ➡ Pick up her book. ➡ Follow her posts and commentary. ➡ And for the white men who follow me or read this post... take some time to sit with the moments in her book (or her posts) that may "trigger" you...
